Just upgraded to Fedora 27. I actually did a two step upgrade from 25. When I try to download files using FIrefox as my browser, I get "could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder." My Downloads directory permissions are drwxrwxrwx, and I am the owner. I CAN save to this directory using FIrefox "save page as" function, just cannot do file downloads. My 'Downloads' icon is missing - the 'down arrow' in the upper right hand corner. I cannot add plugins/add-ons from Mozilla. My system /tmp and /var/tmp permissions are set to drwxrwxrwt and belong to root, grp wheel. I have tried the refresh feature on Firefox, and also have totally moved the .mozilla/firefox/xxdefaultxx directory and also provided a bogus directory name to profiles.ini, all to no avail. I have modified the target download directory in preferences with no success. Also, when I switched preferences to have Firefox "Always ask you where to save files" , Firefox does not provide me with a dialog box. I used dnf to remove and then install Firefox. I created a whole new user, logged in but also cannot perform file downloads through Firefox. However, if I run Firefox as 'sudo firefox' I can download to /root/Downloads. Could there be some permissions problem with the application Firefox uses to download? I am also having problems with Thunderbird since my upgrade in that I cannot write emails, however I can receive emails fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, UPDATE: I deleted ibus folder to have it reset itself. When I run Firefox as myself I cannot download files. When I run Firefox as root, I cannot download files. I can download only when I do "sudo firefox". So, I have copied my .mozilla/firefox folder to /root/.mozilla/firefox and forced the download directory to be my home account's Downloads folder. This is the way I am operating, but I am uneasy running the program as wheel/root. Also, I would like to solve the problem since it is affecting thunderbird as I cannot send emails because of the same 'write permission' problem.
