I have to type WWW to get to sites now,why,I used to just type in anything and it would take me to a site

I used to be able to just put in a subject in the search bar,now,I have to type in WWW first.I want to get back to how Firefox was,where I don't have to type in WWW..Also,I want to get rid of any inclination of Yahoo on the bar next to the search bar,how do I accomplish this as well.

First, update to Firefox 14. Update Firefox to the latest release Then, Try doing a Firefox Reset. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
