Frequently, when my wife or I starts up our Thunderbird email, we get a brief box that says "Your MWT accounts are out of date" . MWT is who we have Thunderbird through. We contacted MWT and they said all is well, there's no problem. Is it Thunderbird trying to tell us something ?

Yes, Thunderbird is trying to tell you that it needs time to re-synchronize your accounts with the server.
