It is possible the index is out of synch with mbox file. One reason could be the Anti-virus tried to fix the mbox file (advise is do not let any Anti-Virus or cleanup software scan etc anything in a thunderbird profile folder) or server index changed. Whatever occured try to repair the folder, this checks the mbox file that contains emails and rewrites the index file to match the mbox file.

  • Right click on folder and select 'Properties'
  • Click on 'Repair Folder' button
  • Click on OK.
