With the new edition, why does is my homepage also now always accompanied by a Mozilla Firefox Start Page and how can I remove it?

When I start up my browser or hit the home page icon, my home page comes up, but now it is always accompanied by a Mozilla Firefox Start Page. How can I stop this Mozilla Firefox Start Page from automatically popping open every time I open my home page? This has not happened in any of the previous versions of Firefox - only the latest one. I operate a Mac, using OS X.
