- Windows 7 Laptop - enabled Bitlocker - %APPDATA% is on a network share, which I have now offline with me

I think, this is a DFS share or a Windows Library.
So I get the famous notice, that bookmars will not work.
So far I have looked and I found the following files accessed by FF and some "System Process"

would be great, if I would have the chance to put the appdata somewhere else, like c:\... to see, if the dfs share is the problem.
Have no clue, what to look else to make this work.

It is a problem with the file places.sqlite in the Firefox Profile Folder that is locked or used by another program.
Hi cor-el,
followed the advise.
- closed firefox (also checked with taskbar, that no firefox process left over) - deleted places.sqlite - started firefox again - it created a new places.sqlite with zero kb, but the I still the red warning stating the bookmark will not work.

Which security software (firewall) do you have?
It looks that Firefox can't create a new file places.sqlite
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
