I noticed that Firefox adds folders and files in: C:\Users\%MyUserName%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%MyProfileName%\storage These folders clearly identify websites that I have visited, with names like: http+++www.speedtest.net

I have been through every tutorial I can find, and I can't seem to find a way to delete these folders and files through Firefox. The obvious (at least to me) "Clear recent history", with "Everything" selected and all tick boxes checked, does not seem to do anything to these files. Yet they are (again, to me) part of my browsing history...

How can I clear them, and why are they apparently not treated by Firefox as part of my browsing history?

Thank you!

That is local storage where websites can store persistent data (local storage and IndexedDB). For a specific domain you can see this in the Storage Inspector when this page is open in a tab.

In the Storage Inspector you can remove specific items or all items via the right-click context menu in the left panel an in the right panel.

  • "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer

Thank you for your answer. It took me a while to find how to access the storage inspector (which was hidden for some reason), but I appreciate the time taken to give me the instructions.

I hesitate to mark the question as "solved" though, as this does not seem to be a way to delete all stored data. You would have to revisit each page/site and delete the data, unless I am missing something.

Also, being a "basic" user, it does not make sense to me that this data is not deleted when I clear the history and that I have to use "developer tools" to clear it.

all programs create sub folders in the user profile. this is due to the fact that windows can have multiple users for one computer. so a users files will be store under their profile and kept private from other users when they log into their own profile.

in my opinion, you are wasting time trying to clean out your user profile from files collected as you use your computer.

theoretically asking: where do you want the computer browser and other software to store files for you, if you dont want them under your profile?
