Please make sure you are using an up to date version of Reminderfox. As the latest version says it works with TB 38.

I presume you unistalled the old one and then downloaded the .xpi file to desktop or downloads folder. Then installed it into Thunderbird. In Thunderbird Tools > Addons click on 'gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file' locate the downloaded .xpi file and click on Open.
