the green progress line in the location bar of FF4 is really annoying and distracting ...not to mention a rather pukey green !!

That is not a built-in feature of Firefox 4. Check your add-ons to see if one of them has added this. The Status-4-evar add-on for example can do this.

I was automatically blaming FF as I have been so annoyed at it since upgrading!
...I must be more patient :-)
