stop auto email downloads
Thunderbird keeps bringing in emails automatically. I don't want it to download anything until I ask it to. This just started when i had to reinstall Tbird after it stopped working for me. 1. It downloads emails automatically 2. I only want emails upon my specific request. 3. I can no longer find any switch to allow me to turn of auto downloads.

Since you mentioned both IMAP and POP, plus having deleted folders, you need to post exactly where you are now. For example, is thunderbird now installed? Is the POP account now installed? Was it old POP folders that you lost? Were they account folders (such as inbox and sent), or were that messages you had saved in Local Folders? Details are important. thank you

If this is an IMAP account, uncheck both the check for new messages and the allow immediate server notifications (for IMAP, it may bring in new messages anyway) If POP,, uncheck check for new messages and auto download
It was Imap. I'd changed from POP. I just changed back because in Imap I couldn't stop the auto download. Thanks
Now. When I deleted Thunderbird because it stopped getting my mail at all, I deleted all my saved mail folders. 1. Is there a way to get them back? 2. I have most of them on another computer. How do I get them to my primary computer? I can find the files but I can't figure out how to get them into my new install of TBird. Thanks in Advance, Jim

Okay. Here's the deal. I had POP but it stopped working. I deleted the account and that's when I lost all my folders. (I blew right past the whole notion of exporting.) Then I reinstalled it again as an IMAP. that's when I had the issues of auto downloads. 1. Then I deleted the account again since I couldn't reconfigure that account as POP. I forgot the settings 2. It seemed to solve my issues with auto downloads. But 3. I had most of my saved files on another laptops I use for traveling. I exported TBird and have it as a Zip file. 4. How do I get my old folders back onto my most recent generation of TBird? 5. I have some important stuff in there. If push comes to shove I can just leave them on my travel laptop. I prefer to get them on me new one though. Jim
