I recently installed Win 11 on a new Acer Aspire (with MSI MAG244F monitor) but the issue seems to be present on my Acer Nitro 5 with built-in monitor as well.

I don't think it's an Acer issue but I am only running Win 11 on the two Acer machines. If I open a web page with colored graphics or pictures and then drop down a menu of the browser (bookmarks, etc.) the colors of the graphics bleed through. It's annoying and somewhat obstructive. It does not occur if a window from a different app is opened on top of the browser window no matter how bright the colors are.

I attached a few edited screenshots to show the issue. The edits are only to cover personal information etc.

The issue seems to be color saturation and does not occur on my other Win 10 machines or in other browsers. Not even the same version Firefox on the Win 10 machines.

Is there a way to increase the opacity of the drop downs or lower the color saturation in the Firefox browser?

This is so called mica effect. It's a Windows 11 exclusive feature and will not work on older Windows versions. Firefox supports it, as well as other browsers.

To turn it off, enter about:config in the address bar, then switch widget.windows.mica to false.

Thank you. Unfortunately widget.windows.mica is already false (see screenshot).

Any other thoughts?

Try to set widget.windows.mica.popups to 0 + restart.

Wow, that didn't work. When I restarted, my PC came up with an error saying something to the effect 'OS is not configured to run this app' or words to that effect and hung with that message after the login screen with a spinning circle under it.

I did a cold reboot (long hold of power button) and it came up. When I opened Firefox and checked the widget.windows.mica.popups setting, it had returned to 2, the value it was before I set it to zero.

I will need to do a backup before trying any setting that might render this machine unbootable. I am not a big fan of Microsoft, this is quite worrisome.

I saw an article which talks about the setting you mentioned. I don't know why they wouldn't work for my PC???

Here's a link to the article I found: https://www.askvg.com/enable-or-disable-windows-11-mica-acrylic-effects-in-firefox-ui-and-context-menus/

Does anyone from Mozilla/Firefox have an explanation for why I have the "mica effect" when the setting of "widget.windows.mica" is set to false?
