My inbox does not have titled columns but I solved the issue by selecting the email, opening, and clicking on the box with the head in on the upper left.

clicking on a column title sorts the list by that item. Clicking again reverses the search. finally clicking on the little square think on the right of the column headings allows you to select more headings.
