"I have an account" button not working for sync

I applied sync to a different computer, and am now trying to apply it to a new one. However, when given the options to either create a new account or use an existing one, well... you saw the title. It is registering the mouseclick, there is simply nothing happening. And attempting to (somehow) fix by going through the "create new account" button does nothing, as it recognizes my email address due to my existing account.

Please help.

You do not seem to have any "unconventional" plug-ins, but I would in any case suggest you do the plugin check, to be sure it's not some outdated plug-in. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

To check if any of the add-ons is maybe playing tricks on you, try to sync in the safe mode. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Let us know if it helped.

You can connect to your existing sync account.

See:

Both devices need to be online at the same time if you want to pair a device with the (3x4) 12-character code. Sync needs to be set up and working on at least one (desktop) computer, so you can enter the 12-character code, provided by the device (computer) that you want to pair, in three fields to pair a device on the computer that has a working Sync setup. Enter all details like the account name (email address) and password and the 26-character Sync key manually to connect to an existing sync account instead of using the 12-character code to pair a device if pairing isn't possible.

  1. open "Tools > Options > Sync" or "Firefox > Set Up Sync"
  2. click "Set Up Firefox Sync" to go to "Firefox Sync Setup"
  3. click "I Have an Account" : Connect
  4. click "I don't have the device with me" at the bottom to enter the account settings (email, password, sync key)

I have the same problem - I found that it's due to the F.B. Purity extension. Remove it and use the Greasemonkey script instead. I reported the bug to the author and he said he is working on a fix.

I had a problem syncing after I forgot my master password. I reset my master password, but in the process, wiped out all my passwords. So, I needed to sync. Had a lot of trouble doing so; re-loaded Firefox, unlinked the computer, and then re-linked it; finally, I disabled my firewall and Ping blocking in my router. BINGO! reloaded all my passwords, etc. Put the firewall back up, blocked Ping, all set now.

F.B. Purity extension? Greasemonkey script? Forgive my ignorance, although I have no clue as to what these refer to. Can someone elaborate on what these scripts are? where to find? and the process of swapping them?

Thank You, Chief,
