Some text areas have severe lag while typing

A few textareas on the web, particularly Basecamp's message reply box and GitHub's search box are incredibly laggy while typing. This textbox here is fine. The lag seems to increase the longer Firefox has been open and it seems to be related to the number of sites I have "pinned" or maybe just the number tabs I have open.

I have tried:

  • disabling hardware accelaration
  • disabling "Remember search and form history"
  • restarting in safe mode

None of those things have helped.

Other browsers do not have this problem, it's just firefox. Chrome and Safari are fine.

You can check for problems with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I also have this text lagging problem while reading content online. It happened as soon as I upgraded to 17.01. I thought it was file corruption so I totally uninstalled Firefox including history. After a new installation the problem remains. I don not have this problem with SeaMonkey.

I forgot to mention that I had completely removed firefox including my profiles and still had the problem.

I tried creating a new profile just now and that had the same lag.

Thanks,

Aaron

This bug is being tracked over here: Bug 819301 - 17.0.1 Blurry fonts since last update

This bug (819301) appears to be completely unrelated!

JimmB மூலமாக திருத்தப்பட்டது

Agreed, it is completely unrelated.

Believe it or not, the bug is strongly correlated to the height of the firefox window. The taller it is, the worse the text lag is. If My window is only about 500 px high i get very little text lag. When it is 1400px high the text lag is unbearable.

More tabs -> more lag Taller browser window -> more lag
