Hi, I updated windows xp with the service pack 3 (in order to get skype to work) but now firefox won't open, it says it can't find a dll file. I tried running it in compatibility mod with earlier versions of windows but that doesn't help. I guess I have to reinstall firefox but I have no other internet browser on that laptop so I was wondering if I can download the firefox .exe file on my other laptop and save it to a usb stick or something? thank you!

Firefox's install file may be downloaded onto a memory stick & then be transferred and installed on another computer, make sure you get the version for the computer you are installing on not the one you are downloading from.

You are mentioning Firefox 1.1 that is hopelessly out of date if that is correct. As you updated your laptop to Windows XP sp3, surely you will have Internet Explorer available, that will be a suitable browser for use when downloading Firefox.

Even if you do not use IE as a default browser you will probably wish to retain it on XP, it will be useful/essential for doing Windows security update downloads etc.

What are the versions of skype, and firefox, and exactly what message is being seen?

Thanks. I saved the firefox.exe file to a usb stick and it is now installed and works on the other laptop. I was wrong about the earlier version of firefox, it was not 1.1 (I only saw that in one of the txt files on the programme folder while searching for the info), it was 3. sthg - but now I have the latest. Thanks for the help.
