Where did my bookmarks go?

Anne Combs

I opened Firefox this morning and there were no bookmarks or history. After looking online, I came to the conclusion that I needed to find the places.sqlite and bookmarkbackups files and folders. However, I can't seem to locate either.

I am running Firefox v153.0 (aarch64) on Mac OS v. 26.5.2

I have Time machine backups, but I need help locating the correct files to restore. Thank you.

Hi,

Maybe a new profile has been created? Check out Recover user data missing after Firefox update or reinstall.

These are in your ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles under your user home directory (where ~/Library is normally hidden on the system to start with) so the easiest way to access is from Firefox menu: Help › More Troubleshooting Information where the "Profile Folder" line will have a button to open the folder for you so you can browse around the adjacent folders and profile data as well.

If you plan to restore with Time Machine, you should be just fine going back in time with that main Profiles folder I mention above.
