I updated to the latest version yesterday and now my Bookmarks ,History and a few other things have gone into Dark Mode. I really don't care for it and have tried looking into my settings but I see nothing that I can do to go back to the normal white. I am using Windows 11 on an HP All In One Desktop computer. Is there anything I can do to revert back to the way it was? Thanks for any reply.

so the answer to getting rid of dark mode w/the latest update (96.0.1) is to change themes? that is an unsatisfactory answer. how about fixing this new update and giving us a choice between dark mode or light mode? Overriding user's long term themes w/dark mode for menus, bookmarks, history etc is not a good idea and not user/consumer friendly. please fix ASAP

That is what support forum volunteers can offer you for now as the fastest fix. Hopefully there will be more choices in a future update in coming months.

This is the most shitty design I've ever seen in software engineering. It's against every single rule of designing the software, especially ones for end-users.

I hope the "genius" who thought the 96 dark default was a good idea is now happy in his/her new job with a company in Farawaystan.

A giant leap backward!!

How about a simple option to turn this off and still use a dark themw with light text??

If you're still having trouble with the dark background, I found this workaround that took care of it with a simple change in about:config. https://piunikaweb.com/2022/01/15/how-to-disable-forced-firefox-dark-mode-theme-after-96-0-update/

Hi, you can try that one and see whether you like it. If not, keep searching, there are so many choices. The main thing is that the tabs have black/dark text to trigger Light mode.

For Firefox supposedly being a community oriented browser, Mozilla is forcing a surprising number of unwanted "features" on the users...

I want the choice of either dark mode or light. I hate, loathe and detest dark mode and have basically stopped using Firefox for that reason. Another example of designers trying too hard and making it more difficult to see. At least give us a choice. I am exhausted by mandates in the world and if you are really going to be progressive at least don't foist a change on us that many don't want.

Hi GK, this is mentioned in the thread, but in case you read past it, you can control the color scheme by your choice of toolbar theme. The text/button color on the toolbars controls the color scheme. Compare these examples:

Dark text on toolbars => dark text on light background

Light text on toolbars => light text on dark background

OK so it's been almost 2 months, with quite a few updates in between, and still nothing has been done about this annoying dark mode. Let's be honest here, please. Is anything going to be done about this or not? I have not found one theme to my liking other than the one I have that has light text, or at least used to have light text, until someone there decided to tell me what themes I must use to have my preferred text.

Any takers here? Please Firefox .....fix this ASAP. Thanks. :-)

I don't know whether there is a plan to add a new setting to roll it back to how Firefox 94 (or Firefox 88) worked. I'm only aware of the about:config setting I mentioned in the earlier reply which hopefully will get added either under Color settings or Theme settings:

That doesn't cover several aspects of Firefox.

  2. 2
