Hi. Thanks, your solution worked, but I never changed it to dark in the first place. I wonder how that could happen. Any thoughts there? TY.
Hi there,
Unfortunately I don't have full context how Google is targeting user for Dark Theme, but I am assuming it may rely on your Browser theme or System theme. i.e if your System or Browser is in Dark mode, Google should be able to detect that and change based on that.
If that's not the case, Google could be experimenting with A/B testing how many people opt for Dark theme. :)
Best, Swarnava!
Ok,thanks. Today google is white. Yesterday it was black. For years before that it was white...just sayin lol.
Here is another example of a page that was white, then went dark for some reason, and is staying dark. Its from the washington post.Maybe its because it came from a newtab pocket link, but they have always been white as well. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2021/12/02/twitch-loltyler1-tyler-steinkamp/?utm_source=pocket-newtab

Hi,
I'm a Firefox user, not a pro. But, I fixed the same problem by going to settings, then changing my Theme. I had a light one, but apparently it got buggy? I picked another light one, and changed the home page to Google, and voila! Light screens when I hit the plus (new page) and hit the home button (Google).
Hope this works for you too!
Hazel H.
When I set the theme manually as light, and when I later reopen the homepage - Google, a persistently dark theme appears again, and it was always light for me. The same thing happens with a blank page and Youtube page. This has been happening since the penultimate version of Firefox.
@mmonroe, which Firefox theme are you using? The dark theme? Going to `about:config` and setting `layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override=1` should fix it (it requests all websites to be light, regardless of your Firefox theme).
There's some work ongoing to expose this choice in a more user-friendly way in future firefox versions.

I just tried this fix,as just now the search engine site duckduckgo has gone to a dark background. It worked right away, and is now light background.
