Thunderbird email upgrade problem

Since Thunderbird (Macintosh version) was recently upgraded automatically, it now crashes every time I try to use the Groups or Smart Groups function from my Contacts app to send emails to groups of correspondence. This is a grave problem, sufficient enough to require a change in email clients if it isn't soon repaired. Additionally, Tag menu no longer shows the colors assigned to it, which is less important, but troublesome. My system is MacOS High Sierra, Version 10.13.6

Please advise as to when these bugs will be fixed. Thank you.
