All of a sudden, I cannot highlight and/or resize photos. This problem exists on a desktop and 2 laptops. All running windows 7. Have a few email addresses. Happens on all of them. When I left or right click on photo, a duplicate photo appears. It now appears as both joined together as one. Cannot highlight. If right click on the duplicate, it disappears. Left click in open space duplicate disappears also. To try to be of help to someone to help me, I was trying to fix another problem I have. When I click on a link, it works as far as opening the website, etc but the PHYSICAL WORDS can no longer be seen. It continues to work as a link but I cannot see the words any longer. I Look for the pointer to turn into a hand... I tried to figure it out and went into GENERAL>CONFIG EDITOR and changed SOMETHING.. I wanted to write it down, but had a phone call and did not remember what I had changed...... The photo problem happened sometime after this..... Do not know if one has to do with the other.... If no answer comes to mind, can I get some sort of listing as to what all the items in the Config EDITOR SHOULD BE SET AT.... THANKS SO MUCH, Linda lindasilver@NYC.RR.COM

re :When I click on a link, it works as far as opening the website, etc but the PHYSICAL WORDS can no longer be seen.

The selected clicked on hyperlink in the email is now the same colour as the background, hence seems invisible. This means either the colour of background is the same as the 'Visited Links' or vis versa.

  • 'Menu app icon' > 'Options' > Options' > 'Display' > 'Formatting' tab
  • click on 'Colours...' button.

Usually the 'Unvisited Links' is a mid blue colour and the 'Visited Links' is a purple/mauve colour. If you see 'Visited Links' has same colour as background eg: white, click on the 'Visited Links' square colour icon to get a pop colour choice window. Choose a purple or deep mauve colour from the 'Basic Colours' section and click on 'OK' to select it. Then click on OK to save and close.

re :I Look for the pointer to turn into a hand...

It is usually a default setup on the computer that changes the mouse pointer icon depending upon what it is hovering over.

  • Generally, people use an arrow as the shape for general pointing to select anything.
  • In a Text box where you can type, the pointer should become a vertical line cursor pointer.
  • If you hover over an object which can be resized, the pointer usually becomes a double headed arrow at the resize point.
  • When you hover over a link, the pointer should turn into a hand with a pointing finger.

This is setup on your computer. The link below takes you to appropriate webpage for Windows 7

re :went into GENERAL>CONFIG EDITOR and changed SOMETHING.''

  • Menu app icon > Options > Options > Advanced > General > Config editor

Any setting that has been setup different from the default will have the 'Status' as 'modified' and will be in bold font.

You will find quite a list in bold as this includes updates, mail accounts and server ids, ldap, plugins, printer etc etc. Most is set up when you add mail accounts and receive updates, use a printer or set up particular options in Account settings and Options.

When you access the 'about:config' area it does offer a warning. You should only change something if you know what to change and what setting you need. OK, I accept you intended to make a note, but I suggest that making a note is something you do before you change it because you need to know the preference name and what the Value setting was before you change it.

As a general check to see if there is something obvious....Do you have any preference that starts with 'accessibility' or 'apz' or 'mousewheel' or 'toolkit' or 'ui' that are modified and show in bold font ? If yes, what is the preference name and the value?
