When I open friends emails, their message only appears if I hit reply; emails with ads, however, show content

So I can see I have an email from James. When I open it, there is no message, just blank space. If I hit reply, his message appears below where I would reply. If I get an ad from a company, like Bonefish Grill, I get the email when I open it.

try dragging your mouse over the body of the email to select it. I have seen this sort of thing before where the person sending the mail specifies white text because they prefer dark themed things and when you get it it is white on White because they really only did half the job in specifying the text colour, they forgot to specify the background.
