In Thunderbird, why does a newly received email only show the email contents from a previous email?

When I select a newly received email, the email information (message and attachments) that is shown are those from the previous email. I can click on it multiple times, or close and restart Thunderbird, but still the email contents doesn't match that of the newly received email. In fact, after opening the email, even the subject of the email doesn't match that which I can see in the inbox. After about 10 or 20 minutes, this problem seems to fix itself and they match. This problem doesn't happen every time I receive an email, and seems to happen consistently from particular people who email me, and especially when they added attachments (not especially large files though).

Sounds like your index file is out of synch.

Right click on Folder and select 'Properties' click on 'Repair folder' button clickon OK

select another folder and then reselect the 'fixed' one.
