I had to re-install Thunderbird. I downloaded the latest version from your website. Why is the settings/options menu not on the start page?

Due to my Mozilla Thunderbird being deleted by a Microsoft tech, I downloaded the latest version from the website, which is a bit different from the version I had. On the old version the menu (three bar icon) for everything, including options, settings, etc., was on the start page. On this version, it is not. How can I get the menu on the start page?

Press alt or F10 to show the menu, then select View|Toolbars and tick the checkboxes. Repeat this on every separate window as required, e.g. Main, Compose, Address Book, Message View etc. You should now have the Mail Toolbar visible, which is the default home for the Application Menu with its hamburger button.

If you still don't get the horrible hamburger menu button you may need to customise your Mail Toolbar.

The hamburger is not made available on all windows, so I advocate using the traditional menu, simply for consistency.

If you really like the hamburger button, I'd suggest putting it alongside the two tabs for events and tasks and then it will be visible at all times. I also put my Address Book tab there too.

How confident are you this was a bona fide "Microsoft tech"? What reason or justification did they give for removing Thunderbird? Did they advise you of the concomitant loss of your records of all your communications and of valuable data such as your Address Book?

I find it hard to see any reason why a competent engineer or technician would find it necessary to remove an email client. Or maybe he wasn't competent, or maybe he was just spiteful.

Zenos, the tech didn't just remove Thunderbird, but when he re-installed the Windows OS, 'everything' that was previously added to my computer was removed. Pressing F10 and displaying the Toolbar will be good enough, thanks.
