It depends on what you mean by 'for a while'. If you mean a few hours, during which your computer will be running, you can achieve this with the message filters in Thunderbird. But if you have in mind absence for a day or so, or longer, during which your computer will be turned off, or may shut down, then you can't expect Thunderbird, which can only work when your computer is on.
