I'm am not able to access one specific url. It doesn't matter if it is a link or typed in directly. I can access it with Chrome and Opera browsers but Firefox just times out every time. I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps and nothing has worked.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I have Vipre antivirus installed and it found nothing. I also ran AdwCleaner and Spybot Search & Destroy and they found nothing. I don't think this is an adware problem because only a single url is affected and that url can be accessed with Chrome and Opera. I can access the url if I run Firefox in safe mode, but if I run it in standard mode, with all extensions disabled, the url cannot be accessed.

What extensions do you have installed?

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions do not block content.

Did you check the the log in the Web Console for error messages and the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see if content fails to load or is possibly blocked?

You can use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

It's one of the extensions causing the problem but I can't find out which one. If I start Firefox in safe mode I can access the url. In normal mode it will not access the url even if I disable every extension and plugin individually.

Do you see extensions on the about:addons page in Safe Mode that do not appear in normal mode?

Your Firefox appears to be outdated. Forum softwre suggests you are using an outdated Fx39. You should be on Fx45 by now.

Possibly you have malware preventing updates. Please let us have details from your troubleshooting page information. Then try to update Firefox manually and if that fails download and install the latest version by visiting getfirefox.com

What version do you see before tying that, and did it update if so to what version.

To find the correct solution to your problem, we need some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

  1. Use ONE of these methods to open the Firefox Troubleshooting Information page:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click on help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.
    • Type about:support into the Firefox address bar and press the enter key.
  2. At the top of the Troubleshooting Information page that comes up, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  3. Now, go back to your forum post, right-click in the reply box and select Paste from the context menu (or else click inside the reply box and press the Ctrl+V keys) to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I wondered about the version as well but when I go to Help/About Firefox it reads 39.0.3 "Firefox is up to date".

Anyway, I have located the problem. It is NoScript that is blocking the url. Disabling NoScript does not work. I must remove it in order to access the url.

Try to ask advice at the Noscript forum.

No script is probably pretty configurable from what I understand and so I imagine it would be possible to solve your one site problem without uninstalling no script.

If you are on Fx 45 some thing is corrupting your use agent string as it is shown by the forum software to be

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:39.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/39.0

You also say

If you are in fact on Fx39 you are far from up to date.

As I said previously it may be interesting to see the troubleshooting information.
