You can not expect to be able to bookmark a dynamic interactive page, especially part way through some survey and reopen it later, possibly on another device. At best it is likely to default to a survey start or some homepage.

Didn't bookmark it, and this link is just one example that happens to be a survey. In the past software from Kaspersky (Banner Ad Blocker) has been reported to cause such issue with sending a 1x1 GIF image instead of the requested data. Maybe Norton has a similar setting to block some images.

Sorry you are just expecting too much from these links or bookmarks.

I am no expert at HTML and maybe I should have chosen my wording more carefully when I said bookmark.

The point I was tying to make is there is a big difference between an open tab on a browser and a bookmark, or copy of the URL even one including its parameters.

Let's take a simpler case that is easier to demonstrate. When you are part way through your next reply use the option [Preview Reply] You will have an entry in the location bar showing https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1044629#answer-preview

Now try

1. Navigate away slightly use the link /questions/1044629
2. Note that
   1. Gives focus on your original question, at the top of this thread,
   2. Clears the text area, where you were just typing.
   3. Makes a bold arrow at the end of the location bar
3. Now use that arrow to go back to where you were.
4. Even though You
   1. Are still logged in
   2. Are even in the same browser, and browser tab
   3. You still have site cookies, and cache files
5. You have lost the text you just typed

Sometimes the links will work. This is a search for add-ons and the two links will return different results because of the parmeters added on to the ends. One returns about 2 hundred and the other over 600 hits.

John, Appreciate your thoughtful reply, but I'm thinking you've not understood the problem. At least I'm having trouble relating your response to the problem I'm having: I'm looking at an email or web page, I click a hyper-linked item, and the result is a web page with no content other than a 1x1 GIF. See the attached image.

As cor-el said it could be the effects of security software.

Do you get the same effect on very simple links, or is it mainly ones with parameters strung on the end. Doesn't some some security software try to block for instance bank details and identifying info.

If you get the same issue in IE and Firefox then the problem probably is not with Firefox.

If IE works but Firefox does not are you able to give an example with a URL and screenshots to compare IE & Firefox.

Another thought. Why use Norton's Safe Search Any benefit to you is probably rather speculative. Firefox already has rudimentary Phishing and Malware protection built in by default.

Norton's AV protection; which you will want; is separate and will function without the Safe Search.

Thanks John. I've not inspected the URLs for common patterns. I'll keep an eye out for that. I can reproduce the problem with Norton disabled. Per my reply to Mr. Yeah, it does also affect IE, so I suspect that's the end of this thread in the Mozilla forum. At a bit of a loss as to where else to post, though :-(

Does the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) show a clear URL of that GIF image?

That's cool. Maybe a bit out of my depth. I see this in the inspector:

I'm wondering if this might be caused by the Blockless DNS service we use to impersonate other geographies. I tried disabling this before but I may have neglected to flush the cache. I'll try again later. Can't right now, the wife is watching Irish Netflix.

Confirming this appears to be a problem with Blockless. Reconfigured the router DNS to defaults, rebooted and flushed network cache. All good. Reinstated Blockless DNS, issue is back

I have had the same problem for the past month or so. I also use Blockless and discovered it may be the new Ad Block they have on their site. It seems to be the only new thing added to my system. I have disabled it and the web pages that were not opening are doing so now. Time will tell if this was the cause.
