Inbox should show text of selected message
The inbox screen listing the messages used to have a lower section where the individual message highlighted is displayed (without specifically having to open it) with the text and a list of options on the top what to do with the message. This feature has somehow disappeared. How can I get it back?

Thanks for the reply. Restarting the PC and Thunderbird solved the problem. I will remember F8 for the future. Thanks

Press F8 to toggle the Message Pane on and off.
