all i get when I right click is a list of spelling suggestions, over and over, filling the entire height of the page, it will scroll infinitely, even when I'm not in a text box.

I can't save as, view an image, copy, paste, nothing.

That's strange. Could you try resetting your menus and toolbars as follows:

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Firefox should display the Safe Mode dialog (Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode). Check just the box for "Reset Toolbars and Controls" and click the "Make Changes and Restart" button.

Do your context menus return to normal?

yes and no. it definitely helps, but as soon as i start typing, the menu fills up with spelling suggestions again. when i can right click, the last option is "languages" and it displays about 15 identical english dictionaries.

I wonder whether the files have somehow become duplicated in the main programs folder. I'm not sure on Vista where that is, but you could try

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\dictionaries

I have one each of: en-US.dic and en-US.aff

Found the folder, but there are just the 2 same as yours. weird.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
