I copied the entire app data folder from the old drive. Tried to restore the local folders buy copying the Thunderbird folders to the Local and Roaming folders and changing the Profile.ini file to the profile name. Folders show up but they are empty. Hoping someone is able to assist.

Regards, Mike.

To me it looks like you first copied all AppData including Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.ini and the profile as well as Local\Thunderbird REPLACING (?) all. (Local isn't that important as it contains cache-files)

Then you edited Profile.ini (WHY?)

Can You give us a screen-shoot of Thunderbirds profile and of profile.ini

I replaced the local folder to try and restore the email in there. I've descided to start fresh.

So I"ve created a new profile (existing account) downloading the email from the server. I now need direction on restoring the mail that was in Local Folders.

Running Win7 and have the old appdata files saved.

Much appreciated Gnospen :-)

Do you have a NEW (?) Thunderbird-profile or just a new account in your old profile? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Move_to_a_new_PC

Local folders is under Appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles\?????\MAIL\ And you should just have to copy your saved mbox- files (NO extention) and any subdirectory (*.SBD) INTO THIS DIRECTORY(FOLDER) There are an addon that can help importing mbox-files ImportExportTool

Your Address book Is in your profile and named abook.mab and history.mab only those 2 can be copied to your new profile Any other address book must be imported This addon can help you MoreFunctionsForAddressBook

Both are from Kaosmos

How to install an addon in Thunderbird

I setup Thunderbird with an existing email account. I've included a screen shot of an address book error as well as Thunderbird with the local folders and another of where the backup of them are. I've tried importing them using the Import tool, but again, there is no content in them.

I've confirmed abook.mab is not read-only. I also don't see any .SMD files

Alright lets start over with a new profile. start RUN ( Window_key+R) Enter: Thunderbird -P It should start ProfileManager

  • Create a new profile
  • Next
  • Give it a new name
  • Finish
  • Start Thunderbird's new profile (from ProfileManager)
  • skip integration
  • I think I configure my account later
  • EXIT Thunderbird

Your new profile is created in Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

Replace everything inside this new profile with whats inside your saved profile.
