Thunderbird can't find correct profile on new computer

Hello, I've just installed TB on a new computer (Windows11) and followed the directions given on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer to move data from the old computer to the new but when I open TB on the new computer it simply creates a new profile instead of the one I've copied into the C:\Users\...Appata\Local and \Roaming folders. What do I do to get TB to use the copied profiles? Thanks.

1) The plugin lets you make filters for all mailboxes and folders, or for any selection of them, rather than for just a single folder/mailbox. Some things I filter for may arrive in any of several mailboxes, depending on the address I used, and it's a drag to create the same filter for each of them.

2) The plugin lets you search in specific mailboxes or folders, or for any selection of them, without having to wade through masses of irrelevant results from other folders.

3) The plugin shows you, in search results, what folder each email is in. Currently, when I do a search, each folder containing any results is on the list showing how many results it contains, and if I click on it I can see those results, but that's not the same - and it goes away when the results are shown as a list.

When I right click on a document [Show More Options/Send To] Thunderbird email I get the following notice: There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs panel. I've been using TB for multiple years with zero problems, this started when I recently reloaded Windows 11 from scratch (due to a bot virus issue). I have reloaded TB 3 or 4 times. I have also tried creating an association to MapiMail which hosed my Send To link. I had to import a new Send To link from my wifes PC after restoring the registry entry for MapiMail. I have always used the 64 bit version, so the 32 bit version is not for me. I am out of ideas? Anybody else have this problem?

Hi all,

I know how to search Thunderbird emails using the "right-click on a folder" method to "Search messages" to list only those emails which have attachments.

What I would like to do is narrow that down further so that the results only show attachments of a certain type of attachment e.g. just PDFs, or just PNGs.

Is there a way to do that ?

I don't care about matching the filename of the PDF or PNG just that it *IS* a PDF or PNG filetype.

Thunderbird is showing a message count as one more than number actually displayed in the inbox. This is occurring for only one of four email accounts. I did search the forum but didn't turn up anything similar. I tried clearing the startup cache under Troubleshooting Information. I also restarted Thunderbird several times. If I select all messages in the inbox, the selected number is always one less than the total count. I tried deleting 3000 messages from the Trash file followed by Thunderbird restart. A daily machine cold restart has not changed the situation. I always empty the inbox before powering off for the night, but after all messages are deleted, the message count still shows 1. I have noticed the problem for about the last week.

The message count discrepancy doesn't seem to be causing any other problems. I just worry about anomalies. Any ideas? Thank you.

As of this morning, links in emails across accounts in Thunderbird do not open in a browser on my system. I can right click/copy and paste into a browser, but the linking between apps seems to be broken.

I have followed the document above, tried different default browsers, and restarted Thunderbird numerous times. I have also started Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode (hold shift at start) with no change in behavior.

No system config changes last night leading up to this new behavior.

Please advise.

Suddenly this morning, I can't send an email through Thunderbird, but I can through my email service provider's platform. No settings have been changed and I have the most up to date version.

I get this message:

"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) (my account) failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

I am not at all tech savvy with this type of thing, so I need step by step, easy instructions, please. Thank you!

Issues with moving folder from Deleted Folder

Hi I have an Imap account, where i mistakenly moved a folder called Bulk to the Deleted folder (see attached). I have tried searching this forum and tried various options but nothing seems to work.

note when i right click on the Bulk folder there is no "Move To" option

I deleted the folderTree.json and the folderCache.json files as these where large and had lots of references to previous folders i had deleted.

Any ideas what my issue may be, thanks in advance for your help

I have recently begun receiving the following error message from Thunderbird: "Server imap.earthlink.net has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem". It doesn't happen constantly, but at least half the time when reading or moving messages to a different folder or when deleted messages from trash. Examining Earthlink directly from a browser shows that the action issued under Thunderbird has occasionally not been executed. Earthlink Support says everything is OK with them. (I suspect a timing issue, but do not know how to proceed.)

Thunderbird Problem: For many years I have been using the Thunderbird mail client currently in ver. 128.7.0esr (32 bit) on S.O. Windows 10 Home Update 22H2 (OS Build 19045.5487), 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. I have a couple of mail accounts, one of mine and one of my wife. My problem is that for a few days now (about 5 or 6 days) on the InBox folder of my account, only mine, I have not been able to compact the folder. When I try to compact it, the response message is always the following: <The Inbox folder on "my_account_name@gmail.com" cannot be compacted because it is not possible to write to it. Verify that you have enough disk space and have write privileges, then try again> On my disk the available space is 121 Gb on C: where the program with the InBox folders resides and 266 Gb where the data stored in custom folders resides. The write privileges are always the same, never changed, of Administrator. I have already tried the path of "repairing the folder" and re-indexing the folder, but without success. Il mio problema è che da qualche giorno in qua (circa 5 o 6 giorni) sulla cartella InBox del mio account, solo del mio, non riesco ad eseguire la compattazione della cartella. Al tentativo di compattarla il messaggio di risposta è sempre il seguente: <La cartella Posta in arrivo su "nome_mio_account@gmail,com" non può essere compattata in quanto non è possibile scriverci. Verificare di avere spazio su disco sufficiente e avere privilegi di scrittura, quindi riprovare> Sul mio disco lo spazio disponibile è di 121 Gb su C: dove risiede il programma con le cartelle InBox e di 266 Gb dove risiedono i dati archiviati in cartelle personalizzate. I privilegi di scrittura sono sempre quelli, mai cambiati, di Amministratore. Ho già tentato la strada della "riparazione della cartella" e della re-indicizzazione della cartella, ma senza successo. Dear all I helped a friend from moving from Windows to Linux. He used Thunderbird under Win and so I collected all servernames and account data from his three mail-accounts. What I did not mention and what he did not tell me is, that he -over the last 10 years always moved important mails out of his mailboxes and stored them in the so called "local folder" (in German "Lokale Ordner" at the end of the left window.

Of course he was shocked when he mentioned that those content was not there any longer.. after starting Linux for the first time (and after setting up his mailboxes)

Now, the good thing is, that there is a backup from last October. (made by his 16 years old son - he copied the complete thunderbird folder in the filesystem ... and did not use any internal backup-mechanisms) Can I use this "backup" to restore the "local folders" ? - if those local files are stored in this backup - and if yes, how I could retrieve them

I have a "tree-file" showing the complete structure of the thunderbird folder... tree.txt... But I am not allowed to upload it here, as there are only images allowed.

I kindly ask you for help. As mentioned we are talking about 10 years mails frommy friend... Andof course I helped him for free to move from Windows to Linux.

I copied my Thunderbird profile from an old Win 10 computer whose motherboard was failing, and I managed to get the profile copied before I completely lost access. Now I no longer have access to it. I did not use Mozilla Backup. I downloaded Thunderbird on a new Win 11 computer. On the new computer, I set up Thunderbird. Then I deleted the new profile and pasted the old profile. Now Thunderbird will not open at all. It says, "Your Thunderbird profile can not be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I have uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird, but I still get that message. How can I fix this? Thanks, Teresa
