Google sheets is 'sticky', grabbing cells and tabs and not letting go

As Ron noted on 7/4/20, "Google Sheets appears 'sticky' e.g. when clicking from one cell to another a whole section of the sheet will suddenly be highlighted. Clicking away simply moves the selection. It takes repeated clicking to finally select the desired cell. Tabs for different workbooks at the bottom can't be selected without the tab being 'grabbed' and dragged following the mouse cursor. Again, repeated clicking is required to release the tab."

This is happening to me too. The same sheet, when using Safari, does not behave that way. There was no solution for Ron; anyone else have this problem? A solution?
