can anyone recommend a browser that works?
I'm sick of the slow, usless Firefox. Yes, I refreshed it and all that achieved was the number of my fav tabs getting reduced from 8 to 6. Why. Now I don't see any. when I click to open a new tab I just get a white screen.
Plus it's so bloody frustrating trying to get to this page. Useless.

Sorry you are having issues. I have no idea why your tabs where reduced. There is no such thing in Firefox as fav.
On the blank white new tab top right corner you will see a Gear Icon, click it Issue should be solved for Tiles. https://www.howtogeek.com/333805/how-to-change-or-customize-firefoxs-new-tab-page/
As for Firefox being slow, it is only as fast as the system can handle. Low amount of ram and non update motherboard drivers do not help, Defrag weekly, use Windows Disk Cleanup.

If you would care to try this this may help speed things up. FIREFOX TO SLOW Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Or You could try this please : Go the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 or go up higher, keep making changes till find the best setting. Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

If the above things did not improve or fix you can try this : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

I'm sorry to hear that Firefox is not working out for you. These articles have some basic troubleshooting options and tips, in case it helps:
If you have really given up on Firefox, you could try another browser to see if that works better on your system. I use SeaMonkey myself, which is also a Mozilla-based browser. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Opera are other options; however, the Firefox support forum is not the right place to ask people to recommend a different browser.
