I've asked this a few times since Ff has had tabs. If there's a method to do this, my bad, I've not found it yet.

I have several apps that I open in my first browsing session with pinned tabs. Seven if you're counting. What I've found to my horror and dismay is that if I open another Ff window and inadvertently close the window with the pinned tabs first (hey, it happens I'm on Linux and regularly use multiple virtual desktops) then I have to manually recreate my default set of pinned tabs.

My work around has been DON'T USE FIREFOX ! Well, not quite true. I open Ff to get my seven default apps running then switch to Chrome for my ad hoc browsing so I don't have to worry about loosing all my pinned tabs.

My thinking is it would be great to be able to specify a default set of pinned tabs that would always be opened if it was the first instance of Ff loading. I'm not doing code so don't know if this is crazy to ask. Because of that I can imagine it should be doable without thinking about the possible complexity.

After all doesn't every instance of a program have its own thread?

And don't you want me (and others) using Ff for everything?

So how about it, a way to preserve pinned tabs even if the window with the pinned tabs is closed before other Ff windows?

p.s. - I did do some looking and thought for a moment that tab groups might do it. Unfortunately when I create a tab group none of the pinned tabs show up in it.

Did you try to look for History > Recently Closed Windows in such a case?

Make it an habit to use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar to prevent such surprises.

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
So you can make a backup copy of this file.

Please review the use case I described.

The recommended solution doesn't address it or solve the problem.

Loss of pinned tabs *is not* related to failed shutdown. Recovery procedue does not restore lost app tabs.

I haven't seen app tabs in the recently closed winows list. Even if they were, manually rebuilding the default app tabs is not the solution I'm looking for. I already know the pages the app tabs should display. Don't need a windows history for that.

However the "App Tab Initializer" mentioned in your reply looks like just the tool I need. Am going to give that a try and see if it resolves the problem.

Thank you.
