I keep getting the "avg firewall asks for confirmation" message. Now it doesn't matter if I click "allow for all, allow for safe, or block" the message comes back immediately.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
