Help please I'm a novice, why is Thunderbird suddenly saying error occurred connecting to imap.talktalk.net
Over the past few days, the format for emailing seems to have changed on my PC, an error message keeps coming up saying: Error occurred connecting to imap.talktalk.net, I have tried to follow Google advice but it doesn't seem to have made any difference, I can still send and receive emails, but have to wait for all my old emails to load before I can do this, I'm a novice and a pensioner, please help Thank you

Hi jlterry,
I'm a TalkTalk customer and know they have made a lot of changes to their email recently. I'm currently having problems receiving emails to my account but don't have the error you mentioned. Have you tried contacting TalkTalk? They have a live chat option on their website. You could try accessing your email through webmail as a temporary option.

Thanks for your reply Richard I may be wrong but feel the problem is with Thunderbird. In the meantime I am doing as you suggest an am accessing my emails via TalkTalk Webmail Thank you Lynda
Hi Lynda,
The fact that the TalkTalk Webmail is working does suggest that Thunderbird is the problem.
I've had problems with Thunderbird email since Thursday of last week. I'm also using Webmail until the issue is resolved.
I'm presuming that the problem you are having appeared from nowhere and that you haven't been tinkering with server settings etc.
If you go into "Account Settings" and click on "Server Settings" it will show you the Port Number for incoming mail - this should be 993.
If you click on "Outgoing Server" (bottom of the list on the left) the Port Number should be 465.
