Today, 2026-10-24, it appears google is blocking me from using most tabs in Firefox. Versions are 115.18.0esr (64-bit) and 100.0b7 (64-bit). Worked fine yesterday. I have various Win 7 versions on my three machines. I've been getting warning messages from google for some time about stopping support for Firefox and I contacted them to get a date, but never received a reply. On one machine, when I start Firefox, it immediately dies. On the other two machines, it only lets some websites run, but not my personal gmail or my HSU student gmail. I was planning to install Win 11 on at least one machine, just have done so yet. I could try upgrading to 115.43.1esr. Yes. I am a bit of a Luddite; I started working in computers in 1977.

Hi
Firefox 115 is several years old and only gets vital security updates. Windows 7 is no longer supported. I recommend that you update to a supported operating system and the most recent version of Firefox.

It is not about Google stopping support for Firefox web browser in general but the Firefox version you have.
The older Firefox 115.0 ESR you have is based on the old Firefox 115.0 Releases but with security/stability updates since so the EOL Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 OS users can still have a secure web browser to use for a while. The Chrome/Chromium based browsers dropped support back in Jan/Feb 2023.
To use Firefox 116.0 and later including Firefox 158.0.1 Release and 153.5.1 ESR you need to use Windows 10, 11 to run. Or you could install or dual boot with a current Linux distro. Though if you do use Linux I suggest you use the Linux Firefox tarballs from Mozilla to continue to get Firefox updates in long term even when distro no longer gets package updates.
Hi Paul and James. Thanks for replying. I didn't state things all that clear. Yes, I do realize the issue is with the age of the browsers and the OS. I am good at putting things off... And I have a lot of software that I will not be able to use on Win 11, so for now, will upgrade one machine to Win 11. I do resent google for not providing a cutoff date and suddenly not being able to use my gmail accounts and other sites. If I had known the cutoff date, I would have made the time to upgrade. I have not used Linux for a while. I used to use SUSE Linux and a couple other types, so I am a little familiar with linux. I did some dual boots before. Thanks for suggesting that.
Thing is you may still be able to use Gmail webmail site just fine despite the warning at least until Google makes changes that requires newer Firefox versions to use it.
Hi James and thanks! I'm still looking at things. Hopefully I will soon resolve this problem. I posted a question to google workspace, but a reply briefly flashed on the screen that I had to be part of the google Developer Program to even ask such a question. ha-ha. I have not had such a weird problem before, normally I can figure out how to fix things.
