Can no longer login website with Firefox

Hi, I can no longer login using Firefox (latest version for my mac 154.0) into a website that I had no issues logging into until now. Nothing that I am aware off changed on my computer during the last few months. I turned off protections for the website, but it doesn't help. It just sits there, no error message.

I can login into the same website, with the same exact credentials using Safari.

Any idea why this might happen? Does anyone else experiences the same?

Hi,

Sorry you experience that. Here are some standard troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue:

  1. Please check if you have Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) enabled. You can do that by clicking the shield Fx89ShieldIcon icon in the left part of the address bar.
    • If ETP is enabled, try disabling it.
  2. If the problem is not fixed, try clearing Firefox cache.
  3. If it does not help, try clearing cookies and data for the website you experience troubles with (warning: you will be logged out on this website).
  4. If it also does not help, try running Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode. If the problem doesn't persist, please follow the steps from this article to troubleshoot further.
  5. If nothing from the above helps, try creating a new Firefox profile and check if the issue persists there. If it doesn't, you can start copying files from your old profile to the new one to identify which one causes the issue. See this article on what files to copy.

Thanks for taking the time to send me these basic tests. I did 1-4 and didn't help. Step 5 is too complicated for me and for past similar instances these attempts were just a waste of time, they never fixed the issues.

Since you are a moderator, can you please look up the bug database and let me know if there is a logged open bug for the last two versions that makes this happen? I had no problems before and it is Firefox. Otherwise, I have to give up on Firefox.

Since it's not apparent from the above what exactly would "make this happen" or which website this pertains to, there's not much to look up. (There's no general bugs sounding like this in the past two months unless specific to a particular site or logged in session.)

If you don't want to fiddle with profiles, you can simply download e.g. the separate Firefox Nightly nightly.mozilla.org that will come with a clean slate of its own, that you can use to verify whether that can log you into the particular site or not, and inform next potential steps based on that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do not have technical expertise, desire, energy and time to keep fighting technical issues. The website I reported to have a login problem with is cascadeprimetimers.org . I find technology useful only if it works reliably. I cannot spend my days trying to figure out why things do not work. I just switched to Safari as it causes a lot less issues and it seems to work for all websites that I use.

Thank you. I don't see anything logged about that site compatibility, but I see it uses a third–party log in flow (clubexpress–based domains). Trying to poke at the logon flow I get "We could not verify that you are human. Please try again." errors from them, so that is what might have stalled your logins — a security vendor of theirs perhaps.

Since I don't have credentials to investigate further I won't be looking into it now — but feel free to raise this again if you ever run into the same issue in Firefox and need further looking into it. Thanks!

I’ve had this happen before. Since the same login works in Safari, I’d try clearing the cookies and site data for that specific website in Firefox first. Sometimes something gets stuck there and the page never finishes loading.

Also worth trying it in a private window. If it works there, the problem is likely something in your normal Firefox profile, such as cached data or an extension.

Thanks to both of you. Special thanks to jbr for the "poking". Oliver, I already did all of what you suggest and it didn't help.

In June we were told that Club Express experienced a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack (they didn't have in place the needed protection) and their systems were down for 3 days, experiencing major performance issues for weeks after that. Supposedly they added in some protection, so maybe that is causing what I am experiencing.

Technology became unfortunately very complex and companies do not all work together, operating systems and applications are just pushed out with "features" that nobody or limited number of people use/need and tons of bugs that they do not bother to fix. For the everyday user, technology starts to be a roadblock instead of being a great tool, as in most cases there is no support to count on and nobody cares. This doesn't even take into consideration the constant threats of scams, viruses, etc. that one has to be constantly concerned about.

I am just going to use the easy way out and use Safari. Thanks again.
