I am looking at a question I asked on Mozilla support page and random text passages and links are in Hausa language, rest of page is in English which is my chosen language.

It also occurs where I hover over my user name on the support page, it's a mix of English and Hausa

How do I fix this?

Hello,

if I remove the language link it defaults to En-US in the URL and everything is in English. I think it basically solved now - it didn't occur to me to look in the URL and I had never used a different language in the past.

Is Hausa in the list of preferred languages? The second language setting in Settings is about the preferred languages for webpages.

You aren't using a proxy or VPN that could cause ocnfusion?

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings), click the padlock icon (Clear cookies and site data) for the domain in the selected tab.

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

You can check for issues with Enhanced Tracking Protection. Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages like blocked content.

Hello and thanks for reply. I already checked Hausa is not in my language list, I had to look up where it's from. Only languages in list are English (US) and English (UK). I am not using a VPN and the problem only appears on the mozilla help site, not on other webpages.

I tried hard refresh , clearing cache and I'm writing this now in troubleshoot mode and the problem is still there. Disabling enhanced tracking protection makes no difference. It would appear to be a glitsch in the Mozilla support page.

The parts in Hausa seem to be all links or text related to a link, but not all links are in this langauge.

I l did now just look at the URL https://support.mozilla.org/ha/questions/1435580

and ha appears to refer to Hausa , this was called up from the history so I have no idea how it got there

What language do you get when you open a link without a language code as sometimes your IP gets you located in a different/wrong region?

This usually happens if you click a link on a Google search results page and the link specifies some random language. I see this happen as well regularly and since Google passes links through its safe browser check (i.e. modifies the link if you click), there is not much you can do about this.
