How do I get Thunderbird to stop re-downloading all of my old emails (2,000+). Every time I log into Thunderbird email it re-downloads all new and old emails again, which takes a long time and slows down my entire system. How can I make it stop doing that? Thanks

is the account IMAP or POP? It really makes a difference to the answers you get
