Does Private Browsing mode provide as much security as enabling "Multi-Account Containers" would?

If I have Private Browsing enabled by default, do the websites within each tab have access to the browser cache used by other tabs?

I'm looking for the more security-conscious option of the two, whichever that happens to be...

HI, while in Private Mode websites have access to the cookies you have been to and possibly others stored as well as cache of other sites you have been to until you close Private Browsing.

If you want Private use a VPN. From a proper VPN site that is a stand a lone product. These will do but are not as good as a stand alone product. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?platform=windows&q=vpn You can also use TOR which is based on Firefox esr https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

If you use containers then links opened in one container do not have access to data like cookies from another container. In Private Browsing mode most things work the same as in regular mode. The only difference is that all data is kept in memory and not stored in the profile folder and local storage is disabled.

Note that containers do not work in Private Browsing mode because this requires access to data in the profile folder (local storage).

Pkshadow, cor-el, thanks to you both - I've gotten value from both of your answers.

Taken together, they lead me to wonder: by combining containers with a one-container-per-website approach, AND choosing "clear history on closing the browser", could I achieve largely the same result as using a VPN? I know that my ISP could still see my traffic, but they're not my primary concern - it's protecting myself from the worst of Big Data that I'm concerned about.
