How can I make the bookmarks stay off the page
On my laptop that is running windows 8. When I launch Firefox the bookmarks appear across the lower half of the screen. How can I keep them hidden until needed?

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.
Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.
There is the bookmarks sidebar and there is the about:newtab page with a grid of tiles that show recently visited web pages. The sidebar should stay closed when it is closed when you close (quit) Firefox.
You can set the home page to the page that you want to see on startup.
