I cannot adjust video setting (cannot go into HD mode, cannot go full-screen, cannot adjust volume, cannot do anything!) on Face Book video player because the banner with the "like", "send", etc., buttons is covering up the video controls. It has been like this for a long time.

In Google Chrome, that bar is underneath (below) the vid controls.

It doesn't matter how much I shrink or expand the page size.

I do use slightly bigger fonts than default because on this PC, I use a 52" screen as a monitor and sit farther away.

I also use the same size or bigger fonts in Chrome, but the vid player is not broken on Chrome.

Win7 64

I could post a pic of what is happening, but I see nowhere to do that.. Well, I guess I'll just host them and put the links here.

See, now you see the controls.. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-uNrN5DAUNQA/U9GtGIrKQfI/AAAAAAAAETU/mx1rTNR_nI0/s1200/facebook-vid-player-broken1.jpg

As soon as I mouse over vid, this stupid banner pops up and covers up controls! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WJT18gTAIo4/U9GtGWGAu4I/AAAAAAAAETY/ls_VOwXKH8Q/s1200/facebook-vid-player-broken2.jpg

Chrome is not broken in this way, so it must be a problem with FF.

Same pics as above. Second pic shown player controls covered up by banner as soon as I mouse over vid, and they become unusable.

When you say you use bigger fonts than default, which setting is that?

There is a problem with using Firefox's "Minimum font size" setting to enlarge text because it does not enlarge the area allocated to the text. This may causes the text to be cut off or to overlay other elements. The better way to enlarge text is to use the zoom feature and, if you have to zoom all sites, to use an extension like Default FullZoom Level to set that higher baseline.

Okay, I just burned up way too much time in my news feed trying to find a similar problem on Facebook and couldn't come up with one. Is there a particular place where the problem appears?

Text size- 17, 14, 13 min https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-i18PB3JrROU/U9IySUS1RGI/AAAAAAAAETs/dkljuyIjnlQ/s1000/ff-text-size.jpg

I think the answer to this is for Mozilla to fix the browser if it is broken. I have tried what you suggest and txt is absolutely tiny sometimes and then the rest of the page would have to be way too huge to compensate.

Chrome is not broken in this way.

I just changed the largest font size to 15, and the top of the controls just start to pop over that banner. But man, why can't they just fix this? I have to blow things up to 120% size (the entire screen), or even higher to read comfortably. Sometimes more, and the spacing of everything looks wrong.

Edit- I just checked again, and now it is behaving differently- out of the blue!

Now it is behaving like Chrome, and the controls pop up ON TOP of (above) that other banner. What the heck? I bet if I change fonts back to how they were it would go back to being under the banner (behind it - and un-clickable).

That banner you talked about is the web link for the player. Every time you move the mouse over a link, that link is displayed on the bottom of the Firefox window. I think the player itself is taking up the whole window. That is the problem. Try to run the player in a normal window.

Firefox's default approach is to accept the font sizes set by the page* and use zoom to improve legibility. If you override the page's font sizes, Firefox does the best it can, but not all site layouts work that way.

* There is a checkbox for this in the Advanced Font dialog.

FredMcD - It is supposed to be below the player, as it is in Chrome. In FF, it is on top of the controls (making video player controls unusable).

It is broken in FF, not in Chrome.

jscher2000- I have that checked already. Check my screenshot of font sizes.

It doesn't matter if I check it or not actually. If I have font sizes increased, it does not work (broken, as described). Unless there is another checkbox somewhere I cannot see, I already have that checked.

Again.. this is not the case in Chrome anyways, I think FF should have an option to behave as Chrome does, or just behave like Chrome does by default.

Does it work if you set the Minimum font size to "None"?

If this minimum is increased then this also effects margins that are specified as 'em' values or percentages.

Hi BWX232, it's rare that a heavily styled site such as Facebook would fall back on any of the default sizes instead of controlling everything, but it sounds as though they do in this case. Apologies for not noticing your reply with the screen shot link.

To try to distinguish between settings and inherent characteristics, could you do a three-minute experiment?

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Do not delete anything here. Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, choose a name like TEST or July25, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

Does Facebook scale any better in the new profile, and/or does zooming work more proportionally for all the text?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

After I changed fonts to a smaller size, I could see the top of the controls enough to use them. Then I rebooted FF, and now it works just like CHrome. The player controls are on TOP of that banner.

So it is definitely a problem with Font size causing issues. I Am using closer to 120% zoom with current font sizes (pic above). I also have the font sizes in Win7 64 set to 125% too though- in Control Panel, then "display".. I forgot to mention that.
