Immediately after update to 52.1.1 on Win 7 Pro SP1 Thunderbird crashes repeatedly. No issues on receiving or sending mail.

My extensions and plug ins are screen shot and attached. The only pattern I see is that message preview fails and the screen garbles before the crash. Select an email, preview is OK. Select another email preview is OK. Return to original email, preview area blacks or is garbled and generally, but not always, crash reporter appears. Restart of Thunderbird and all is well for a while then repeats.

Bad News...Good News I had to reload Windows 7 to fix a failure to boot problem. That required a reload of all of my apps . After I did a clean install of Thunderbird and copied my old profile directory intact from a backup, the problem is gone.

If this is a windows problem or a problem with the Thunderbird update...unknown. But the profile appears OK as those files are same as before. I noticed during the clean install of Thunderbird that a pop up indicated that Lightening is now included with Thunderbird. Previously I had added it as an add-on in an earlier release. That's the only clue I can pass on as to what may have happened on the previous upgrade,

Try Temporarily disabling Lightning, or try with a clean profile

To use a clean profile back up C:\Users\<username>\Program\ Files\Thunderbird\AppData\ and move to another location and reload Thunderbird.

linuxmodder, FYI Lightning isn't commonly known to cause crashes. And creating a profile is a lot of work for a user, when posting a crash ID can definitely point us to the cause.

dflanagand,

Please post your crash IDs here. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping that one of the crash reports can point at the issue and save me from the pain of a new profile.

The install to the latest version happened on 5/19 and the crashes began immediately thereafter. The lastCrash file has : 1497274029.

I have been reporting the crashes after each event from the Crash Reporter popup.

Several of your crashes are @ CompareCacheMatchEntry which is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1353702
