deleting message from IMAP account in unified inbox does not work properly

I'm running Thunderbird 115.10.1 on Microsoft Windows 10.

I do most of my work in a unified inbox that has three accounts -- 2 POP, 1 IMAP. I added the IMAP account more than a year ago, at least as far back as 102.15.0, and it has never worked right in the unified inbox.

If I open the account inbox directly, I can delete a message (although I don't understand the way the UI works for this account): I press the "delete" button, the header in the message list gets a strikethrough line, and some time later the message vanishes from the inbox.

If I open the unified inbox and delete a message from either of the POP accounts, it vanishes immediately. If I delete a message from the IMAP account, nothing happens in the UI for the unified inbox -- but if I look at another tab where I have the IMAP account inbox open, I see the strikethrough line. Eventually the message vanishes from the IMAP account inbox, and when I look back at the unified inbox, I can see that it has vanished there, too.

Is this as simple as failing to render the strikethrough in the unified inbox, or is there something worse happening here?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I sometimes don't check this email account for a week or two at a time. Every time I start Thunderbird and download mail after days of not checking, it starts filtering mail and then crashes after a few minutes. I have a lot of filters. 169 and growing. Some have multiple addresses to filter. According to the filter log, it crashed after less than 2 minutes of filtering, but it seemed like it was chugging away at filtering longer than that before it crashed. If I restart and download a small number of messages it doesn't crash. If I manually run the filters on the inbox, it doesn't crash. Is there something I can try other than checking mail more often? On Wednesday 12/11 at approx 4PM PT, Thunderbird stopped being able to log in to my sbcglobal.net POP3 account. It had been receiving emails routinely up to that time. There are two error messages associated with this. One happens if TB has been open and I ask it to download new messages using the little cloud symbol or “Get Messages”: “The account xxx@sbcglobal.net is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages.” Or if I open TB and it just starts with the login process, the error messages is a popup: “Connection to server inbound.att.net timed out.” TB manages two other accounts, both of which are functioning normally. One of them is also an sbcglobal.net account, and both sbcglobal accounts are set up identically: Port 995, SSL/TLS, Secure Mail Key (rather than OAuth2). Version is 115.18.0 32bit, Windows 22H2. Logging in to the server shows many emails that have arrived since the problem started. I have gotten nowhere with ATT/SBC, they don't seem to want to provide any support anymore if they hear the word Thunderbird. Can you help?

I have a large amount of email stored on an IMAP server. Would like to reduce that by moving most or all of it to a local disk drive. Am looking for a (hopefully simple) guide to doing the transfer. I don't see a Local Folders entry in the left-hand pane; not sure if that matters. (Presently running TB 115.10.1 64-bit on Windows 10 and 11.)

I just upgraded my desktop pc from Windows 10 to 11, and before the upgrade I used the Tools Export function to export my complete Thunderbird profile, so I could import it after the upgrade. Unfortunately the export file cannot be read on my upgraded pc using the Import function - Thunderbird gives me error messages every time, that suggest the exported folder might be corrupted or invalid.

My IMAP emails are fine, as I have set those accounts up from scratch and the folders have now populated with all the emails - the problem is all my filed emails, dating back many years, which were all stored manually in a filing system under Local Folders.

I tried manually copying across the individual files from the extracted back-up folder into my live Thunderbird profile and then reopened Thunderbird...which worked to some extent...as in, all the folders are there, but no emails are showing! It shows no messages under each folder, even though if you look under the Profile you can see that the email files exist.

I tried various ways to bring them in, including zipping one of the folders and trying to import from the zip file (which also brought in a folder but no emails) but even though the email files are clearly there under my profile, Thunderbird shows 0 messages in all my Local Folders. It's as though it is unaware the files exist, so I suspect it needs them to be formally imported somehow?

I would hate to lose the emails, as they document important information and purchases etc over many years, along with archived emails for my charity work, social events, etc. As I said, I can see the files are there but simply copying the files to my profile has only worked to the extent the filing 'structure' is visible, Thunderbird doesn't display any of the emails.

I have included two images...one of my Thunderbird Local Folders as they currently look, and the other showing the backed up files existing in my Profile, which I hope are helpful.

Can anyone help please? I am running a desktop PC on Windows 11. Thanks, David.

I've checked the SMTP settings for both and they are the same, except of course for Description and Server Name. Here's the error message I get.

Just what the subject line says. Go looking for something and Search doesn't find it. Even after I remember the email and find it, Search does not find it.

Why is this? It is un-usable, actually as it happens all the time.

For instance, putting in a company name like "walmart.com" will find some but not all the emails with walmart.com and certainly not the most recent ones specifically with a person's name.

This problem started out of the blue on Friday 20th Dec. I can send emails by logging into my email provider 123-Reg without any problem. Any help appreciated.

I run Thunderbird, Thunderbird ESR, K-9 or Thunderbird. Windows 7, 10 and 11, Linux and Android 5.1 and 12.

My desktops all have a gmail and yahoo.co.uk email addresses. Each account is linked to there respective contacts server but all my contacts are in one gmail account which has lost most of the contacts in recent months, that is, only the contacts that I have used recently are still present. So I have been investigating the settings and adjusting in some cases.

Some instances all the account are still linked to the contacts servers. Other cases only some of the accounts are still linked and I want to re-establish the other accounts that have become local accounts, these still have my full complete address book.

Lastly between K9, thunderbird, contacts google I don't know what went wrong but I like advice on how to avoid the problem in future. In the meantime seasons greatings, no hurry my christmas messages will have to wait.

I setup my account it worked well, I changed my office365 password. I was prompted to login with Oauth2, and it worked. However, I can receive emails, but cannot send emails. I get a notice that my password is wrong when I come to send emails. It just happens because of the password change. No matter what I do I cannot find where the Oauth was saved for smtp. There seems to be a desync, where the password updated for the Incoming server, but never lets me or updates the Oauth for the smtp server. Any thoughts?

Deleting saved passwords, just gets me to do Oauth2 for the incoming, it never takes effect on the smtp server.

Many times when I am forwarding emails or copying and pasting text from an outside source, the spell check will choose a word like "isn't" and highlight "isn" as a misspelled word. This has happened with a number of different contractions.

Additionally, it will pick parts of an abbreviated name in someone's email address in the To: field as a mistake. I do not have the time or desire to constantly, go through a long email and choose 'add to dictionary' or click ignore. Why is it even looking at parts of a contraction, and it should be ignoring the To field altogether.

Is there something wrong with my version or is this how it operates? My TBird is up-to-date: 128.5.2esr (64-bit).

En Spark y Gmail me lo notifica y Thunderbird aun tarda mucho en hacerlo, al configurar las cuentas el tiempo mas bajo a escoger son 15 minutos. No esta la posibilidad de inmediatamente como en otras app. Como veo que otra app me lo ha notificado, entro en Thunderbird y lo hago de forma manual y entonces me entran. Un saludo...

This would be very convenient and avoids the need to keep opening up TB to check. I recently tried eM Client, which had this feature, but, returned to TB to avoid other dislikes I found in eM. I wrote an email then clicked on "Attach" (same happens if I click "Add attachment"), I got an error message that stated that a completely unrelated directory did not exist. There was no way to get round this, so I could not add the attachment. I eventually worked out that the directory had been used for an attachment on a previous unrelated email. That directory had since been deleted. I created another directory of the same name and the attachment process worked. When attaching, Thunderbird seems to default to the most recently used directory, if it no longer exists the attachment process fails and there is no way round it.
