Can not send emails to a newly created outlook.com (free) account. Have tried dozens of different settings, approaches.

My current setup:

 - windows 10
 - thunderbird 140.8.0esr (64-bit),  numerous previous versions also do not work
 - outlook.com (free) account mail provider
 - POP3 enabled (tried IMAP enabling also) on outlook.com account
 - no 2FA or 2FA enabled on outlook.com account, no difference
 - outlook.com web access works fine
 - followed instructions in mozilla support article Microsoft OAuth Authentication and Thunderbird in 2024 
      (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202)
 - have done a fresh install on a new machine without an existing profile.
 - have tried various microsoft servers, have tried oauth2, normal password
 - thunderbird account creation works just fine.
 - server settings and SMTP settings match as recommended by support article noted above
    SMTP server settings
        server name: smtp-mail.outlook.com  
        port: 587
        connection: STARTTLS
        authentication: OAUTH2
        user:  xxxxxxxx@outlook.com

symptoms:

 - receiving(downloading) emails works fine.
 - sending emails fails with following messages
     Login to server smtp-mail.outlook.com with username  xxxxxx@outlook.com    failed    followed by 
           Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) . Please check the password and verify the 
             'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'

Many people seem to be having this issue with no resolution.

Please help.

Thunderbird 148.0 64bit Windows 10

When I go into my email program it asks for a password over and over again. it doesn't matter what password I put in, nothing works. Thunderbird has tried to send codes, but they don't go through to my email program. I have used my iPad with a different email address to check some things and go to Shaw Webmail to retrieve my emails. I need it to work as I have lots of files on there that I use often with a volunteer organization among others.

Can I use thunderbird with multiple accounts on multiple PC's and stay synchronised?

I have two PC's i want to set up - it seems like i have to create a new account for a second PC rather than pick up the account set up from the first PC.

i am confused at this point: Double-click toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to true in Settings/General/Config. editor, restart TB.

The row background and text colours can be set with css (see picture):

Help/Troubleshooting Info, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, create a new folder named chrome, create a new document in chrome with a text editor, name it userChrome.css, Save as type: All files *.*, copy in the above code, change the colours as desired. Double-click toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to true in Settings/General/Config. editor, restart TB.

I have never deleted so many emails at one time, around 500. Did I exceed the limits of Thunderbird? I cannot log on. Cannot see new emails. I have been on emailsrvr.com and did verify my passwords. Thank You

Hi I keep getting the message "Unable to connect to your IMAP server". I have reduced the number of 'server connections to cache' from the default 5 down to 1. Thanks

I can receive mail fine. Cannot send mail on gmx.co.uk acct, but gmx.net works on oauth2. But oauth2 is missing on gmx.co.uk It's just not on the pulldown. I tried a new thunderbird acct for gmx.co.uk but oauth2 is still missing.

Can get(POP3), but can not send emails to a newly created personal outlook.com account.

all my setting are correct per thunderbird and microsoft:

Based on my understanding its seems thunderbird is using SMTP AUTH instead of OAUTH2 as required for newer personal outlook.com accounts. Is my assessment correct? If so, is there a fix?

Since updating Thunderbird 64 bit to v147.0.2, then to v148.0 (1st March 2026, just now), requesting the display of 'Unified Folders' (in Folder Modes) does not populate the unified Inbox with messages from any of my eight registered email inbox sources. The individual inboxes with their contents can be displayed below, but not in the unified Inbox.

Since being introduced several versions ago, I have found this feature very useful when checking my various received emails, and it is frustrating to be without it.

Can anyone suggest what I may or may not be doing to get this feature to work any more? I have been all through Settings, but cannot find anything relevant to this problem.

I posted this question some time back but didn't receive any helpful answers and don't know where my post is. In the upper right-hand corner there is suppose to be 3 symbols. One to lower the app, one to make the app full screen or partial and one with an X. I have jumbled symbols where the 3 good ones are. It does it in trouble shoot mode. I tried disabling addons but I can't get the normal symbols back. Here's what it looks like... Thank you for any help.

I've checked and double check as well has changed the outgoing settings from 465 to 587. Nothing works. Help148.0 Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: resomta-h2p-555627.sys.comcast.net resomta-h2p-555627.sys.comcast.net Excessive failed authentication, ESMTP server temporarily not available.

I am installing Tbird on a Windows 10 instance that I am recovering from backup. There is a default profile that contains a folder for a user in an IMAP domain that no longer exists. Tbird won't start and just spins with a message about a missing IMAP user.

I copied the profile to another backup folder. And then uninstalled and re-installed TB. The "AppData > Roaming > Thunderbird > Profiles" folder(s) are still there but empty. When I start TB it says: "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." The old email is not important now. Should I delete more folders in AppData, or what should I do next?

Emails are not downloaded. for instance system says downloading 38 emails, but none come through. Constant duplication of emails that have downloaded and delete doesn't work. Info box comes up asking if there's sufficient room in memory as it won't write the emails to my mailbox. emails work fine on another system - BTmail.
