I've installed Thunderbird v80.0.1

Why are you installing an outdated beta, and not the release version (currently 78.11.0)? https://www.thunderbird.net/

except unable reach Google Contacts.

You do need an add-on for that. Which one did you install?

Thunderbird v 80.0.1 is what automatically downloaded from the Mozilla/Thunderbird two days ago and you say it's "outdated" and that 78.11.0 is current?

No add-on have been added to Thunderbird. When did Thunderbird stop playing nice with Google Contacts? I've been using Thunderbird on my desktop for 20+ years before my system "melt-down" requiring a complete rebuild.

So that brings me full circle, what fixes the issue? I don't want to have to build another address book for my 200+ contacts.

Thanks

There is no 80.0.1 version. Whatever you downloaded, from where did you get it from? For a new installation you'd need to manually download the Thunderbird installer. There is no automatic download. The link posted above will get you the latest release version.

Uninstall the version you previously installed.

Install the release version you just downloaded, but don't run it from the final window of the installer. .

Start the release version and downgrade the profile (if you were really running a beta previously. Windows key+R and enter the path to the release exe with these arguments (assuming a 64-bit TB): C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -p --allow-downgrade

The -p switch starts Profile Manager, where you can select a profile that was run in a beta version, and --allow-downgrade should allow access by TB 78 to a profile previously run with TB beta.

When did Thunderbird stop playing nice with Google Contacts?

It didn't. There was always an add-on needed to access Google Contacts. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1316993

For future meltdowns or other disasters, backup your Thunderbird profile on a regular basis. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
