When I type into "write" for address or message, nothing appears

When trying to write a new message and enter information from the keyboard, nothing appears either in "to" or "subject" or in the body of the message. Keyboard is working normally. This problem has suddenly appeared for the first time.

if you restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu (Alt+H) do you still see this?

Thank you so much, Matt. Grateful for your support. I rebooted the system (Windows 8.1) and after that things returned to normal. Very frustrating for awhile.
