Firefox won't play videos on foxnews.com
Firefox won't allow me to play videos or live stream when I'm on foxnews.com. I use windows7 and Firefox 24 and flashplayer and java are up-to-date.

Suddenly, this afternoon, the problem resolved itself! I did NOTHING new. I simply clicked on the icon and the videos play fine.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I hope the 'fix' stays 'fixed', regardless of what 'fixed' it!

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
No--the videos do not play in safe mode.
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
- Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
- In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
- In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
- Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
Do you at least get a Flash Player?
Did you look at the left end of the location bar to see if there is a plugin block icon?
Current Firefox versions block plugins automatically and you need to enable the plugin by clicking this icon or a possible icon on the web page.
Do you get a Flash player context menu if you right-click in the player area?

To Nellus91: disabling graphics hardware acceleration did not help. All graphics drivers, hardware acceleration, WebGL are up to date.
To cor-el: Yes, I get Flash Player. The left end of the location bar shows that the flash player plugin is enabled on video.foxnews.com.
Yes, I get the Flash player context menu when I right-click in the player area.
The videos play normally if I use Internet Explorer but my browser preference has ALWAYS been Mozilla/Firefox.
Are you sure that Adblock Plus isn't blocking the videos?
I have tried disabling AdBlock Plus on only the affected website and also tried disabling AdBlock Plus on all websites. Neither corrected the problem. I've also tried increasing the runtime by using ninite.com but that didn't correct it, either.

I've been reading up on adblock plus and it COULD be my problem, although when I disable it the videos still don't play. I've been reading about the filters, etc. on adblock plus but I can't find anything that tells me how to disable or modify or actually make an exception for video.foxnews. IF adblock plus is my problem, how can I correct it?
Sigh....I must be very stupid. I read the functionality. My mouse only has 2 buttons--not 3 (wheel between the two). I've got the issue reports from AVG which are pages long; some instruction lines are white; some are pink; some are purple; some are green. I don't know what I'm looking for and I don't know what to do with it if I ever find it! Am I the ONLY person who doesn't understand why videos are being blocked on foxnews.com? Am I the ONLY person who wants to continue using Firefox instead of that stupid IE? WHY CAN'T I GET THE VIDEOS TO PLAY???????????????????????? I'm not a computer geek--I'm OLD!!

I have had the same problem for several months. All software (Firefox, Flash Player, Realtime, etc.) were all up to date. Found a solution posted on the internet that made no sense, but IT WORKED! In Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Privacy and click on "clear your recent history" then check all boxes except "site preferences" with the timeline dropdown box set to "everything". Finally, click "clear now". NOTE: Your drop down site list will be erased, so you will have to type in each site you like to go to the first time you use it. Minor inconvenience.
