Firefox crashed two days ago, cannot reboot or download new copy

Was using firefox browser ... experienced multiple crashes. After the last crash the system would not reboot, automatically or manually. Two days later still cannot reboot firefox. Multiple messages have been sent from my desktop, but to no avail.
