Home start page loading imcomplete after updating to version 8, can't do a search from there, what to do???

downloaded the lastest version 8. Now home start page does NOT finish loading, just stops, refresh button isn't there, bookmark button is not there, and a box comes up asking to reload previous page. Can NOT do a search from the search box. Nothing happens, dead page. OPS is windows xp.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
